Green Tea Has Acute Beneficial Effect on Endothelial Function

چکیده
Green Tea Has Acute Beneficial Effect on Endothelial Function Scientists studied the effects of 6 grams of green tea, 125 mg of caffeine (the amount contained in 6 grams of tea), or hot water on flow-mediated dilation of the brachial artery in healthy subjects. Flow-mediated dilatation (FMD) of the brachial artery is related to coronary endothelial function and is an independent predictor of cardiovascular risk. FMD increased significantly with tea, whereas it did not change with caffeine or the hot water placebo. This indicated that green tea’s positive effects were not related to the caffeine, rather that green tea’s polyphenols were more than likely responsible for its effects on blood vessel health.

Green tea reverses endothelial dysfunction in healthy smokers.
G reen tea is popular in Asia, including Japan, although it is rarely consumed by western people. It contains large amounts of catechins which are potent free radical scavengers and therefore has an antioxidant effect. Oxidative stress participates in the pathogenesis of many cardiovascular diseases. Recently, black tea consumption has been shown to reverse endothelial dysfunction in patients w...

The aim of this study was to investigate whether green tea extract has beneficial effect on gentamicin-induced acute renal failure. The investigation was conducted on thirty-two Wistar rats divided into four groups of 8 animals each. Control (C) group received normal saline. GT group received green tea extract orally, 300mg/kg. GM group received gentamicin intraperitoneally, 100mg/kg and GT+GM ...
متن کاملThe effect of green tea consumption on oxidative stress markers and cognitive function in patients with Alzheimer’s disease: A prospective intervention study
Background: Alzheimer’s disease (AD) is the most prevalent degenerative disorder of the brain among elderly individuals. Many studies indicate that oxidative stress is an important pathogenic factor which involves oxidizing macromolecules such as DNA, lipids, and proteins in AD. Green tea is a rich source of antioxidant compounds that can remove radical oxygen species. The purpose of this...
متن کاملGreen tea (Camellia sinensis) catechins and vascular function.
The health benefits of green tea (Camellia sinensis) catechins are becoming increasingly recognised. Amongst the proposed benefits are the maintenance of endothelial function and vascular homeostasis and an associated reduction in atherogenesis and CVD risk. The mounting evidence for the influential effect of green tea catechins on vascular function from epidemiological, human intervention and ...
متن کاملThe efficacy of black tea in ameliorating endothelial function is equivalent to that of green tea.
Consumption of tea has been shown to improve endothelial function. It is assumed that catechins are the tea components responsible for these beneficial effects. In black tea, catechin concentrations are significantly lower than in green tea. The present study was designed to compare green and black tea with regard to amelioration of endothelial function. Endothelial function in response to both...
